Exploring England Studley Park Modern

Coombs Avenue, looking north towards the Yarra, February 2010.

Coombs Avenue, initially named Studley Park Avenue, was named after Joseph Butterworth Coombs (1842 to 1901), an accountant who founded Coombs and Co Ltd, a successful mercantile trading company. Coombs once owned a substantial parcel of land along the northern (lower) side of Stawell St stretching westwards from Yarra Street to Fewick Street and beyond.
